One of Nebraska's most beautiful shorebirds, the Great Blue Heron's slow, graceful flight is a sight to behold.

The Great Blue Heron inhabits south and west Nebraska year 'round, and is found in the rest of the state during the summer months. The herons which migrate go to Mexico and Central and South America. The Great Blue Heron builds its nests in treetops near open water. It can be recognized in flight by its S-shaped neck.
