"Nebraska Set" note cards Card set catalog #: NS Set of 10 cards and matching envelopes; 1 each of these 10 crisp line drawings of rural Nebraska - packaged in clear plastic boxes - $12.00...fill out the order form and mail it with your check or money order. Nebraska is a state of great beauty from the sandhills with Chimney Rock, its yuccas, and prickly pear cactus in the west to the lush green of the river valleys in the east. Armand loves to capture the essence of that beauty in elegant line drawings done directly in ball pen on the scene. The grain bins, Chimney Rock, Elk Creek main street, and the windmills were done while on the Bike Ride Across Nebraska and the Tour de Nebraska bike tours. Armand loves to draw grain elevators because they, like people, are all different. Each complex of elevators is unique to the area for which they were constructed. They are part of a vanishing landscape, being replaced by a more modern low dome shaped storage facility. "The Sower" is a nineteen foot bronze statue on top of the dome of the tall central building of the Capitol Building. "The Sower" is a fitting representation of the agricultural history of Nebraska. Located in the North Platte River valley, Chimney Rock is the most famous landmark on the Oregon, California, and Mormon Trails. As a prominent landmark and guidepost for the travelers, it has been drawn and sketched many times (http://www.nebraskahistory.org/sites/rock/sketch.htm). Even a cursory look at the sketches shows that Chimney Rock is eroding and presently is a mere shadow of what it was when the travelers first saw it. How could a set of Nebraska cards not contain a windmill or two? The close-up is a drawing of the windmill at Second Wind Ranch near Comstock, Nebraska. Second Wind Ranch has an outdoor collection of working windmills. The other windmill sits proudly in the center of the dirt main street of Strang, Nebraska, a small town in the southeast quadrant of the state. For larger image, click on the thumbnail |
